This spring, we hosted Step & Connect, a series of community events aimed at bringing neighbors of all ages together to build connections, share stories, and enjoy the beauty of our local green spaces. Held at various trails, parks, and community centers across Langley, these gatherings thrived rain or shine, with each event creating a unique opportunity to connect.
Instead of a single speaking panel, attendees were invited to participate in smaller breakout groups. Guided by conversation cards, these groups fostered meaningful discussions, enabling neighbors to share advice, favorite local tips, and personal experiences across generations. These smaller group settings created an intimate and inclusive atmosphere, allowing attendees to engage deeply and truly get to know one another.
With the support of local businesses, we provided refreshments, thoughtful giveaways, and engaging activities to make each event memorable. The series also highlighted the value of mentorship and the richness of Langley’s age and cultural diversity, breaking down generational stereotypes and encouraging connections that strengthen our community.
Through Step & Connect, we saw firsthand the power of shared experiences to bring people together and the added light physical activity of walking made it a less intimidating environment for new attendees!
