This was the first event of a two part project to build new relationships among neighbourhood residents as well as providing opportunities for participants to learn from each other. Approximately 45 people turned out on July 18 to learn how to play pickle ball, bocce ball and croquet. Everyone brought either a salad or dessert and their own plates/cutlery and the Neighbourhood Small Grant from the Community Foundation of the South Okanagan Similkameen was used to provide beef on a bun and roasted potatoes along with iced tea and lemonade. Lots of great conversations happened while playing the various games in particular while learning how to play pickle ball. The best part was that people naturally sat in two big circles to eat and talk after lining up at the tables and talking about the huge variety of salads on display. The conversations went on into the evening as people told stories about themselves, the community as well as in at least 3 cases reconnecting with neighbours who had moved to other parts of Kaleden. It was a great summer evening in the park ! !
The second event will be held in October, we’ll celebrate our community during harvest season, and have another opportunity to strengthen our connections with our neighbours.
