<span;>It’s Summer Holidays
<span;>First I would like to thank Neighborhood Small Grant’s for the opportunity to receive the funds to make our “party” a great success.
<span;>Our local skatepark is visited by children of all ages genders and wealth. It’s a place to feel safe while enjoying something they love to while getting excerise and fresh air. During the summer months so many children stay inside to play video games and this was a way to bring the community together.
<span;>On this day we swept the park to be sure to remove all lose gravel as that’s the reason for so crashes (as I’m told). Falling or not completing a trick is something that happens very often so we try to make sure our friends know we support them so they get right back up and try again.
<span;>There were many breaks as the day went on as it was muggy out. There was lots of water bottles, Gatorade to replenish electrolytes, freezies, hamburgers and home made cupcakes. Near the end of the day I brought out some little prizes for things like Best Jump, Best Land, Made Coral laugh the hardest and Best Bail.
<span;>Summer is hard for many children as they crave structure and routine and with school out they’re lacking that. Many of the youth attend the skatepark alone so I could only submit pictures that don’t show any faces. But trust me when I say They LOVED the homemade cupcakes. There may have been a little extra food coloring so tonques were many different colors.
<span;>Our challenge that particular day was the heat. I brought my pop-up tent to offer shade and lots of drinks. They had lots of breaks and what felt like 100’s of freezies that helped everyone cool down. Unfortunately you never know what the weather will be like and hot is better than rain when you’re riding and it’s slippery.
<span;>The skatepark youth and I want to say thank you for allowing us to have a Summer Holidays Party. We all left after having hours of fun with full stomachs, a few scratches and great big smiles.
