Our idea for Sunset Makin’ n’ Paintin’ was to create an event that was both creative and environmentally friendly. Instead of using traditional paints, participants made their own paint from red cabbage and then used it to create sunset-inspired artwork. We wanted people to enjoy painting while also learning that art materials can be made from natural ingredients in a fun and sustainable way.
Planning the event took more work than we originally expected. We had to think about the materials we would need, how to prepare the natural paint ahead of time, and how to make sure participants had enough supplies to enjoy the activity. We also had to organize the space so everyone had room to paint comfortably while keeping the event running smoothly. Since many people had never painted with homemade paint before, we planned a short introduction to explain how the paint was made and how it could be used.
One challenge we faced was making sure the paint had the right consistency and enough colour for everyone. We tested different recipes before the event and adjusted the mixture until it worked well on paper. We also had to estimate how many participants would attend so we could prepare enough materials without creating unnecessary waste. By planning ahead and communicating regularly as a team, we were able to solve these problems before the event began.
The project was successful because everyone on our team contributed. We divided responsibilities based on our strengths, with different members helping to prepare materials, organize the activity, welcome participants, and clean up afterward. Working together allowed us to stay organized and adapt quickly whenever something unexpected came up.
Through this project, I learned that even a simple event requires careful planning, teamwork, and flexibility. I also realized that sustainability can be introduced in creative ways that people genuinely enjoy. Seeing participants experiment with natural paint, have fun, and leave with their own artwork made all of the preparation worthwhile. This experience showed me that small community projects can have a meaningful impact by bringing people together while encouraging more environmentally conscious choices.
