Welcome to the Love Labyrinth,

I began this project with initial advertising about the creation and painting of rocks happening over the summer with posters and hand-0uts throughout the sunshine coast from Gibsons to Earls Cove.  And info posted on my website.

Over the summer on most sunny days I would set up rock painting supplies on the site area the labyrinth would be created.  Families, friends, tourists and local community members participated.  Often rocks would be placed already on site when I arrived, the mystery artists were intriguing.

With the gracious donation in kind from B&K Landscaping for the pea gravel, Persephone Brewing Company for the space given to create the project.

The design and building process I worked on over September – a true labour of love!, Adding natural rock into the combination of colourful masterpieces  was a fun task and created such a beautiful look.

The next stage was more advertising.  New posters and hand-outs were distributed  and website updates for the official Opening Celebration.

Challenge #1!!!   And the only challenge throughout the project came with an intense crash the day of the opening……Mother Nature in full force and an atmospheric river rained out event.  There were a few brave people who came toward the end as the rains lessened, yet still intense, this filled my heart with joy, especially as one was a mystery artist!

Of course I was very sad at the time of leaving and had planned my opening speech, land acknowledgment, decorations and token gifts for attendees with such precision.  As I packed up my car and got in to warm up and dry off, the new plan in sight to this set-back was to have an off-shoot opening celebration in the spring.

I learned so very much about my own personal abilities in this project, physically and emotionally it was very rewarding.  I was humbled by the community & participants that came to paint rocks or simply stop by to chat.  The amazing stories shared and personal artistic creations were the golden nugget to it all.  The solidifying experience of how art brings people together and the powerful aspect of healing it has, was extremely impactful for me during the creation of the Love Labyrinth.

I would like to thank and acknowledge the gift it was to create on the lands of the unceded ancestral territories of the skwxwu7msh peoples.
