The Nipo-Brazilian group tries to get together once a month – or as much as possible. For this summer we decided to have an Undokai with a barbecue at the park.
The biggest challenge is always the organization of what needs to be purchased, waiting people to confirm and the logistics of the gathering. Since I was the one who applied for the grant and had received the money, I decided I was going to handle everything by myself. The group was generous in helping out at the park and bringing extra food and supplies for the activities.
In total, we had 32 adults and 9 kids (between the ages of 2 and 7) and everyone was included in the activities. Our gathering started 11am and we left the park almost 8pm, it was fun and incredibly helpful in bringing our community closer.
The main lesson I got from leading this project and event was managing the resources to attend our needs the best way possible. It was also very rewarding to see our community enjoying something I worked to provide to them.
