We are a small road nestled above South Main (Penticton) that has a combination of agriculture and country residential lots. Because of our geography, we are very far apart from one another. We wanted a way to celebrate and beautify our tight-knit community in a simple way and show those who visit our road that we are not living in isolation.
Thirty-one neighbours worked on creating their own quilt design. Barn Quilts Trails inspire rural communities across Canada to appreciate and market their assets via barn quilts. This eye-catching folk art attracts visitors and helps our rural communities put themselves on the map.
Our neighbourhood is brighter and even more inviting, one neighbour wrote to me afterwards “I was so inspired by seeing everyone’s enthusiasm and creativity. So looking forward to seeing all the great neighbourhood displays of community friendship”.
Thank you for the Neighbourhood Small Grant – it was just what we needed to lighten our pandemic blues.
