I start by letting the Sierra Strata Council know the date of our barbecue. Once we have picked a date, it goes into our strata minutes, the online Sierra website and is posted on our mailbox. I ask them to RSVP so I know how many people are coming, then I double the number for those who don’t let me know until the last minute. I shop for the food a couple of days ahead and prep all the supplies to make sure I don’t forget anything. The best thing I do is say bring your own chairs and drinks, then I don’t have to haul so much stuff to the gazebo. We have extra tables and chairs stored for this event in a storage room. We start setting up about an hour before the advertised time and put on music to draw people to the back of our complex. I also ask neighbours to help with set up and clean up, so it’s not so much work. It’s also good to have people wear name tags so we get to know all our new neighbours and the strata council can put faces to names.
