How do we enjoy neighbourhood gatherings for cultural diversity and lighter living inspiration? Green Together is a community program for all to learn and share eco skills and practices. It’s a great way for us to connect with each other and build a diverse and inclusive neighbourhood for working, playing and living together.
As an NSG project leader, I organized a harvest cultural workshop last year with success in sharing skills and building connections in our neighbourhood. This year, the NSG event was back on popular demand for local members again about harvest arts and culture. It’s led by a local artist and presented around mid-September with some new activities to learn and share green skills while celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival with lantern and mooncake traditions. Free and open, the in-person event was held at a public and accessible place through a local partnership and a family-friendly program for community creativity and well-being. A diverse audience came together and enjoyed lighter living activities featuring a group tour of a community art exhibition, an interactive talk about green culture, a hands-on experience of eco-craft making, and a fun photo op for the harvest celebration.
Green together for a green and active neighbourhood where we can get inspired and involved in lighter living actions to enrich and support a healthy community and sustainability. Despite some challenges of limited budget and unexpected issues, I was able to work on my project and bring the community together with new, lighter living features. Big thanks to the funding organization of Vancouver Foundation and the Association of Neighbourhood House of BC, as well as the Neighborhood Grant Committee of Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives, it’s a good experience for me to make this event happen in collaboration with community services and local support.
