Stornoway hosted its first Christmas Music Bingo Night on the evening of Sunday, December
22nd.
The goal of this event was to encourage seniors to leave their homes, socialize, and
foster stronger connections within the community.
The event was a success, with several rounds of bingo played and the seniors enjoying every
moment. I began the game by distributing one bingo card per player, offering the option to add
an extra card for more of a challenge. By the end of the night, some seniors were playing with
as many as four cards! I was particularly impressed by how well they managed multiple cards at
once. At the start, we reviewed all the called numbers to ensure no one missed any. After a few
rounds, the seniors were able to follow the pattern on their own, so we all agreed to skip the
review, allowing the game to run more smoothly. By the end, every senior had won a prize.
After the bingo games, I played about eight Christmas songs on the piano, including classics
like “Away in a Manger”, “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”, and “Frosty the Snowman”. The
atmosphere was lively, with my schoolmates leading the singing. Many seniors joined in, and
some even danced along. I carefully selected songs they were familiar with, ending the
night with “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Overall, the Christmas Music Bingo Night was a great success. The seniors had a wonderful
time, and the event helped strengthen their connection with the community. I’m grateful for my
schoolmates, who helped with the singing, organizing the bingo cards, and distributing gifts.
We also gathered feedback from the seniors on how to improve future events like this. Some
suggested holding similar gatherings each season. We’re all looking forward to more enjoyable
times together.
