On a sunny afternoon, the Apple Green Art Room in Richmond, BC, bloomed with color, laughter, and creative curiosity. Bottles of vibrant ink clinked like tiny bells, conversations rippled across the room, and the faint scent of alcohol filled the air—the unmistakable signs that something magical was about to unfold.
.From curious beginners to seasoned painters, everyone arrived with an open mind, ready to let color, movement, and chance guide them. Inspired by the warmth of the season, participants dove into the flowing world of alcohol inks, discovering how unpredictable beauty could be.
The session opened with the basics—air blowers, color mixing, and the magic of rubbing alcohol to guide the flow. Before long, those simple steps turned into a whirlwind of experimentation. Vibrant pigments raced across the paper in waves and blossoms, blending into unexpected forms. Each swirl of ink sparked laughter, surprise, and a chorus of delighted gasps.
✨ Tanay, a young artist, couldn’t hide his excitement: “I’ve always painted, but this… this is different. The ink feels alive, like it’s guiding me instead of the other way around.”
✨ For Subhangi, who had years of watercolor practice behind her, the workshop was a joyful rediscovery. This medium lets me play with depth and light in ways I never imagined. Today, I created an entire flower using nothing but color—and no paintbrush at all, just by blowing the ink.
✨ Ken, a complete beginner, was stunned by what he created: “I didn’t think I had an artistic bone in me. But I just let the ink move—and somehow, it turned into something beautiful.”
✨ And yola, who had joined to challenge herself, left with more than just art: “I was nervous, but this space is so encouraging. It reminded me that art isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being brave enough to try.”
As the hours passed, the room transformed into a living gallery. Tables sparkled with vivid, one-of-a-kind artworks—each a reflection of personal stories, emotions, and discoveries. More importantly, friendships were formed, encouragement flowed freely, and creativity was celebrated in all its forms.
By the end of the day, the Apple Green Art Room held not just artwork but the spirit of community and possibility. Participants left carrying their creations, their smiles, and a renewed sense of confidence.
This workshop was more than an introduction to alcohol ink—it was proof that art can unite strangers, spark joy, and remind us that creativity is within everyone.
With heartfelt gratitude to the Vancouver Foundation, Richmond Cares Richmond Gives, and Neighbourhood Small Grants, this workshop became a reality—and a reminder of the power of art to inspire and connect us all.
