Wow!!
Where do I start? I applied to have a mosaic making workshop in our local park (Village of Clinton-Reg Conn Park) during the summer. As events came and went alas we didn’t get ours in. But that is okay because we always have a back up plan.
Take 2 – we held our event in the school shop and invited community members to try their hand at tile mosaics. We were lucky to have some tiles on hand and a local flooring store gave us some of their broken bits. We purchased wood slabs, tiles, tools, adhesives, grout, safety tools, sponges and snacks.
The participants couldn’t all commit to the same days so we held more to accommodate everyone (in fact some came back to make a second piece) we still have a few still working on their creations. This event has created a momentum. As we are fortunate to have gotten the grant to purchase supplies, we have them to carry on with mosaic works of art. The core of the group are wanting to make more and possibly have them displayed around the village. During the dark winter months it will be great to meet up once a week to have some laughs, smash some tile and let creative juices flow. The space is free for us to use and we can all put in to buy more grout and adhesive. I have put a call out for tiles and it is amazing how responsive folks are to give you their odd bits.
Never did I think this would be something that could become something that could stand on it’s own. I am thrilled that is has.
I can’t wait to see what direction this will take. The group has been referred to as the “Mosaic Mamas”
For anyone with an idea, please apply and see if you can make it a reality. Have a little wiggle room in your plan just in case a bit of a block comes up. Also, if you have someone that is able to take pictures or video have them do it. I was so busy making a mosaic as well I failed at photos. There is just a couple, but I’ll share them. Have fun with it!
And many THANKS!!!
