“2025 Happy Holidays on Truro Drive”
About six weeks before the celebration, we emailed neighbours to share details of the event, followed by reminder flyers closer to the date. We requested RSVPs and received many positive responses. The weather the previous day was beautiful, but December 14th arrived with cool and wet skies. Thanks to some of the neighbours, we had two canopies and propane firepits so we could stay warm and comfortable. The event was hosted in my driveway and carport, offering hot and cold drinks, homemade and bought baked goods, and treats for the kids.
From 1 – 4 pm on Sunday, December 14th, members of the Truro Drive Block Watch gathered for our event, “Happy Holidays on Truro Drive.” Over 65 neighbours attended, including both long-time residents and new members. This marked our tenth Block Watch gathering, making it a wonderful opportunity for everyone to reconnect, share stories, and build relationships. Holiday music, warm beverages, and sweet snacks created a festive atmosphere.
Neighbours also generously donated to the Steveston Food Cupboard, allowing us to deliver two large boxes to the Steveston Food Cupboard the following day. The community’s appreciation reinforced how meaningful this collective effort was.
The goal of the event was simple: help neighbours get to know one another better—and we achieved that with great success! New families shared how special it was to experience this kind of community connection. Children huddled under one of the canopies with the fire pit and enjoyed hot chocolate and treats. These gatherings have helped neighbours learn about each other’s skills and support one another with home projects and repairs.
We also updated our contact list and sent guests home with a small gift, made possible by the Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program.
Since the event, it’s been wonderful to see neighbours communicating and feeling more connected. These relationships are essential to creating a safe, friendly, and vibrant neighbourhood. We sincerely thank the Neighbourhood Small Grants Program for the $500 contribution that helped make this event possible. In the future, we hope to continue this tradition and possibly invite guest speakers to further support safety and community-building on Truro Drive.
