This workshop was a free seasonal wellness event for the Esquimalt community. Designed to support participants as they moved from spring into summer, the event focused on reflection, creativity, connection, and self-care.
Our goal was to create a welcoming and meaningful experience that anyone could join, regardless of their background or experience with wellness practices. The afternoon included a welcoming circle, a releasing ceremony, an oracle card reflection, a nature-inspired wall hanging craft, a Reiki drumming and sound journey, and a closing gratitude circle. Tea, refreshments, snacks, and treats were also provided. Each activity was chosen to encourage self-reflection, personal growth, and connection with others.
One of the main challenges was creating a program that would appeal to people with different levels of experience. We addressed this by making all activities beginner-friendly, inclusive, and easy to follow. We also wanted participants to leave with something meaningful, so we included a wall-hanging craft that allowed each person to express their intentions and take home a reminder of the experience.
Collaboration was key to the project’s success. We worked together to plan the event, purchase supplies, organize logistics, prepare materials, promote the gathering, and lead activities throughout the afternoon. We also carefully managed the budget to make the most of the funding while covering venue costs, materials, refreshments, and facilitation support.
One of the biggest lessons we learned was the importance of creating opportunities for people to slow down and connect. Participants engaged in the activities, shared openly during discussions, and supported one another throughout the event. The combination of creativity, sound, reflection, and community connection created a welcoming space where people could relax and focus on their well-being.
We are grateful to the Neighbourhood Small Grants program for funding this event and making it available at no cost to participants. Thank you!
