Fieramente Choir was formed in 2022, after a social media post about the need for a queer and trans choir in the Comox Valley/Campbell River area gathered lots of enthusiasm. We are a non-auditioned choir for 2SLGBTQIA+ folks and our allies in the North Island region. Since our inception, we have performed concerts twice a year in Courtenay/Comox, but had not yet before performed in Campbell River, where some of our singers live.
With the generous donation from the Neighbourhood Small Grants program, we received funding to hold a free concert in the Willow Point Lion’s Hall on April 26. The choir performed our set and then concert attendees were given the opportunity to learn simple songs in 2 or 3 part harmony and sing with the choir. As a result, some audience members now want to join the choir! We learned that, for the next time, we will amplify our presence on social media, increase the lead time for promoting our event and advertise in the paper and on the radio to reach more people before the event. Although our attendance number was smaller than the capacity of the hall, we had a great afternoon of singing together and sharing delicious refreshments.
For more information about joining Fieramente Choir in the fall or trying us out for free at the first rehearsal, email us or visit https://www.fieramentechoir.ca. Many thanks to the Campbell River Foundation and the NSG program for making this concert possible.
