We are a group of local writers, poets and photographers who put together an anthology which we published in print form with a NSG. We bring together participants of all ages, and we have a track record, having done an anthology in 2018 which was included in the public library’s “Emerging Authors” collection. Since then we have attracted new participants — many of whom are suffering from isolation in this COVID period and are looking for a shared project which will be an outlet for creativity and also give pleasure to readers. Those proficient at Zoom organized a virtual launch with readings. It was also order-able through online outlets and distributed free of charge to schools and appropriate community groups. Contributions of stories and art were mostly on the topic of local landscape, history, and community places and activities. Most writers were on reduced incomes at present. Print copies went to schools, seniors’ centres and other community centres for those who don’t go online for their entertainments. We call ourselves the “Victoria Independent Authors Group”.
We picked up our books from the printer on June 30th, 2021 and had a “launch party” at Fifth Street Grill to celebrate. Our contributors were very excited to see the finished product, and the group is planning to hold public readings from the collection over the summer and fall.
