We prepared over 300 seed kits with our grant. The kits were focused on easy-to-grow varieties, with a selection of vegetables and flowers; we also offered, as a limited run, another kit specifically focused on culturally relevant Asian vegetables in May for Asian Heritage Month.
The kits were distributed at community pop-ups over late winter / spring 2022 (with masking and, where possible, physical distancing) and were also available for pick-up from The Learnary. Our Asian vegetable kit in particular saw high interest — the majority were spoken for after one pop-up!
We were able to distribute over half of our 300 seed kits this spring — over 1,260 packets of seeds! — and will continue to give them out while they’re available. The GCNSG we received played a critical role in our ability to offer seeds, particularly those sought out by community members.
While the return to in-person seed distribution came with challenges, it was wonderful to connect again with community members and gardeners. We had great attendance across our five pop-ups and gave away lots of seeds — just how we like it!
