The Riverstone is a subsidized housing complex located in the town of Hope. I took the classic story of Stone Soup and adapted it to our community with the building. Some food security challenges many faces in Hope are the lack of affordable groceries available locally and the disruption of food supply delivery during inclement weather.
Participants had the opportunity to connect with neighbours, learn the skill of make-shift cooking, discuss how they could share this meal with other tenants who were not able to make the workshop, and preserve leftovers for themselves and the community.
Food Security Through Community Building was the idea behind this project. Participants enjoyed a nutritious meal together and received a versatile soup recipe, a resealable container to go and instructions on how to host the next RiverStone Soup event.
