I am partnering with WE Arts (West End Arts Society), Babylon Buttons and the Women’s March to create buttons that encourage dialogue around women’s rights. Originaly I hoped to be a regular interactive event at the West End Summer Art Market but some personal events got in the way of that. There will be several booths set up at the 2019 Women’s March where people can create their buttons.
The goal is to encourage dialogue and create safe spaces for people to discuss issues that are important to them. As a student of Arts for Social Change we often find that lack of understanding is due to lack of dialogue, and lack of dialogue is due to lack of ‘safety’. People are encouraged to create buttons about topics that are important to them and that they feel comfortable talking about with others. The goal is that wearers of the button create a safe space for questioning /discussing topics that may be new to others.
