Our project was entitled “Art Convention.” Our aim was to bring the community together to foster connection, care, and support—to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall, as this event took place on the first day of the season.
This NSG initiative invited all artists in our community to participate. We believe everyone is an artist in their own right, so all were welcome to display their artwork, including paintings, photography, and more. It was deeply moving to see one participant present her beautiful cross-stitches, another share striking black-and-white photography, and another showcase his renowned paintings. They also offered reflections and led teaching sessions to share their skills and artistic journeys. Participants included children, youth, and adults alike.
I believe this was one of the best NSG events our community has received. Local artist displayed incredible work and taught us how to paint. Quality art materials were provided, allowing everyone to create their own pieces, express their creativity, and connect with their neighbours.
Thank you to NSG for making this all possible. It truly was an all-ages ART community event.
Activity, Colorful reflection – Abstract Acrylic Landscapes
This exercise invited participants to create a stylized landscape or abstract scene using acrylic paints. It was flexible enough for all skill levels and ages, and it encourages creativity without pressure for realism.
- Theme : “Reflections” — participants can interpret this as literal (water reflections, sunset skies) or metaphorical (emotions, memories).
- Canvas Size: 8×10 or 9×12 inches — small enough to finish in one session, but large enough to feel substantial.
- Structure:
- Welcome & Setup (10 min) – intro, distribute supplies
- Warm-up Sketch (10 min) – optional pencil sketch or color planning
- Painting Time (60–80 min) – guided or freeform painting
- Drying & Sharing (10–20 min) – group reflection, optional display.
