The Bark Park community has a history of celebrating events, especially Halloween where dressing up in interesting costumes for dogs and dog parents, makes this event so much fun. Like many events, the pandemic impacted the tradition and now the time has come to reconnect with fun and laughter in the spirit of spookiness! Weather was the biggest challenge with lots of rain in the forecast and trying to time a break in it hold the event. The event planners chose Sunday October 27th with alternative plan being Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday if things got really bad. While some did there ‘sun dances’ to ward off the rain clouds, the odds we not with us. Around 1pm on Oct.27th, the rain mysteriously stopped so the set up began at 1:30pm and by the start at 2pm, things were looking good. People came out and dogs paraded in their costumes, working the crowd for treats! We announced the prizes for best costumes and then the rain returned with a vengeance. Some left quick while about fifteen huddled under the two tents we had set up, enjoying the music, food and drink until nearly an hour later, as blue sky moved our way, the rain quickly stopped. At least a dozen member of the Bark Park community were involved in making this event happen. What we really learned was be flexible, and that a community that has fun together, thrives together.
