Fifty percent co-funding requirement waived for eligible community partners

The Neighbourhood Small Grants program is a 50/50 co-funding partnership between Vancouver Foundation and communities around the province to support projects that help people connect with one another and make neighbourhoods a better place to live.

However, we’ve heard from many communities about the challenges in securing additional funding to meet the 50% fund matching requirement.

Starting in 2019, we are welcoming up to five eligible new community partners to contribute less than 50% at a minimum of $3,000 per year while Vancouver Foundation will contribute a maximum of $7,000 per year. After three years, the fund matching will then move to an equal contribution (e.g. $5,000 each). This will not be retroactive to existing partnerships.

Vancouver Foundation will assess communities based on financial and programming capacity to oversee the program in order to determine eligibility for this new co-funding model.

By lowering the fund matching requirement, it’s our goal to enable more communities to participate in NSG while they build their capacity and strengthen their relationships with other funding partners.

We’ll be evaluating the impact of this change to assess whether we’re effectively responding to community need. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Meseret at meseret.taye@vancouverfoundation.ca.

Neighbourhood Small Grants

We believe the best people to effect change in a community are the ones within it. And when we can make money less of an issue in doing so, it allows so many more kinds of ideas to shine.
