Our second annual block party was a success. It was wonderful to reconnect with many of the faces we saw at last year’s event and to welcome even more residents into the celebration.
The party started off with a variety of fun games for both kids and adults. The homemade giant bubble solution was a hit, thanks to the idea shared during the NSG gathering and the recommendation by Jennifer, our NSG Community Coordinator. No one minded getting their hands wet and slippery while experimenting and exchanging ideas on how to make the biggest bubbles.
A local police officer gave an informative safety talk, followed by a Q&A session that allowed residents to engage directly with law enforcement and learn more about keeping our community safe. The Block Watch Office volunteers provided an information booth and games to engage with the community. Many questions were addressed by the lovely volunteers. Some newcomers of the community were even interested in becoming volunteers themselves to pay back to the community.
Food was a highlight, with hot dogs, lemonade, snacks, spicy chow mein, and homemade cookies being especially popular among the attendees. These delicious offerings added a flavorful touch to the party and kept everyone happily satisfied. We discovered many talented chefs in the neighbourhood. The idea of having a friendly potluck competition was formed during the conversations about what food was most liked.
Together with my young party helpers, we also made a custom banner, which not only brightened up the event but will be a staple for future gatherings. The positive response from our neighbours suggests a strong interest in more frequent events, and we’re excited to continue fostering these connections.
A big thank you goes to the Neighbourhood Small Grants, the RCMP Block Watch office, and our RCMP police officers. Their support and participation played a crucial role in making the block party enjoyable and memorable. We look forward to many more community celebrations ahead!
