I held my NSG activity yesterday at South Vancouver Neighbourhood House (SVNH). It was attended by about 40 people and I received a lot of praise over the delicious food prepared for the event as well as the wide choice of books to take. Several people came with books to give away in addition to 100 books available at the start of the event. Kwangyoung, from SVNH, helped by advising me on running the event with an Agenda and this made the afternoon run smoothly. I explained that the money for the event came from the Neighbourhood Small Grants program. Kwangyoung spoke about some of the resources that were available at the Neighbourhood House too. Once people were eating and then looking through all the books there was a great deal of cheerful chatter and happy smiles! Many were happy to leave with several books they had chosen to take.
I received $220.00 to host the event.
Many thanks for the experience of hosting a Community Event, something I have never done before. I was nervous that I may not have enough food or books for the event to be a success but once everything was put together it was just right.
