We are a group of retired seniors who love Chinese and Cantonese music. We gather every week to play musical instruments and sing. We often accept invitations to perform. We are very passionate about giving back to the community. Many neighbours and friends come to watch and support us every time we perform. This fosters community connections, appreciation and friendships.
With the NSG funding, we were able to practice for and conduct 4 performances. We performed at 2 Canada Day celebrations, one at a South Vancouver church on June 30 and another one at Sunset Community Centre on July 1. We also performed at South Vancouver Neighbourhood House on August 25 and at Mount Pleasant on October 13.
Our meetings were not just about music but also social connection. When we met for practices, we shared homecooked food and snacks, while exchanging views on latest news in the neighbourhood. Many people besides the members are blessed by our band and become healthier and happier. We hope that more people will get to appreciate, learn and share our love for music, performing and singing!
