Organizing “Clay Café” was an incredible opportunity for me to share my passion for health education with hands-on creativity. The goal of this event was to create a space for youth to learn about the importance of nutrition and healthy eating using an engaging, interactive approach. Participants took in practical tips and took home handmade keychains, representative of what they learned in food-shaped clay charms.
This project was a meaningful blend of education and creativity that brought people together around a shared interest in health and art. Together, we reflected on our own personal nutritional decisions and devised new strategies to include healthier sustenances in daily meals. Our guest speaker, Thomas, went into detail about the scientific benefits of consuming nutritious vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates – an extremely insightful look on the importance behind creating nourishing meal plans.
“Clay Café” was designed to be an intimate experience, with a focus on dedicating time for mostly group-wide discussion and connection. The openness of our question and answer deepened each person’s retainment and understanding of the information presented. Despite the varying ages and backgrounds of each participant, the comfortability we established throughout the workshop took down those barriers between everyone.
Through the silly, adorable charms each participant brought home, they served as a gentle reminder of the lessons and knowledge we obtained through our nutrition and clay workshop. Each person left with a goodie bag filled with snacks to get everyone started on their journey towards healthy eating.
