Our Community Veggie Gardening events were split into 2 amazing days;
We had a great time holding public community events on May 14th and 19th at Beaconsfield Park. There were hands on sessions for vegetable and fruit gardening tips, creating new garden spaces, composting, fruit tree pruning, and planting veggies in the community garden.
Many community members participated in the preparation, education and/or planting events. These workshops were accompanied with social community building with food. This project will grow local food, and increase greening in a section of the park which was formerly gravel. This also improves access to gardening for lower income participants, youth, and seniors who don’t have access to gardening space. We were able to improve composting, and build community garden boxes. There will be improved access to nature for those who come to the park. This will provide ongoing community and environmental benefits, and ongoing park beautification.
