Our Block Watch – Block Party was held on a nice sunny Saturday, just a day after the Canada Day celebrations. The turnout was quite good considering it was a long weekend plus a lot of our members are still a bit cautious about gathering.
Our event was graced by the Collingwood Community Policing Centre (Collingwood CPC) with Retired Cst. Jose Abundo, Executive Director Partap Sahota and Member of the Board of Directors Jim Easte. We invited the Collingwood CPC so our members could have a walk with them around the perimeter of the building. We all learned a few more good points about security especially for seniors.
When Block Watch Constable Steve Dhaliwal found out about our Block Party he had to come! And we were very happy that he graced our event. We even made it to the @VPDCommunity Twitter feed.
Thanks to the Neighborhood Small Grants, we had lots of food and drinks. We had fruits, cheeseburgers and chicken burgers, baked buns from the local bakery; and a couple of members brought some food to share. We even managed to have a raffle draw with giveaways courtesy of one of our members! Everyone was happy to take home some gifts.
The past couple of years have been tough on all of us. Conquering COVID together was something of a group objective. Looking after each other as neighbors are as close a family we could be. Having a chance to get together, sit down and share some food again was a refreshing change. This is after all what Block Watch is all about.
