We offered a unique opportunity for community members to engage in gentle, holistic movement practices that support physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Qigong, an ancient Chinese wellness practice combining breathwork, slow flowing movements, and meditative focus, was accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels.

The class series ran for six weeks and was held from. 7-8pm every Sunday at Tecumseh Park. Each session focused on building foundational Qigong skills, promoting relaxation, reducing stress, and enhancing participants’ overall energy and vitality. The movements were designed to be simple yet effective, with modifications offered for those with physical limitations.

Participants reported a wide range of benefits, including improved balance, flexibility, sleep quality, and mood. Many noted a deep sense of calm and clarity following each session. The group setting also fostered a sense of connection and community, with attendees often sharing their experiences and encouraging one another.

The grant funding allowed this class to be offered free of charge, removing financial barriers and making holistic wellness practices more accessible. In total, 8 individuals participated, and feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Several participants expressed interest in continuing Qigong practice beyond the scope of the class, either through ongoing sessions or independent practice.

This initiative successfully demonstrated the value of integrating mind-body practices like Qigong into community wellness programming. It not only supported individual health outcomes but also contributed to a culture of mindfulness, self-care, and resilience within the community. We are grateful for the grant support that made this program possible and look forward to expanding similar offerings in the future.
