I have worked with the children of the community to teach them my baking skills. We live in the remote village of Hot Springs, also known as the Hesquiaht First Nation. The youth need teachers and adults to help build certain skills.
Together, we decide to bake something and distribute it to the community. If there is an event, then we distribute during an event, and we have made 200+ cookies for such events. The kids are really excited to be involved and listen very well. They learn about personal hygiene while cooking and baking, and they are taught step-by-step instructions to make something. They also get something out of sharing with others and bringing some goods back to their own homes to share.
The community gets excited when we do this. As soon as we post, people come running to get a treat!
