The “Grow Together” free community-building events on June 2 and June 15th at Beaconsfield Park attracted participation from about 40 community members. Participants ranged from young kids to seniors, fostering intergenerational knowledge-sharing and community socialization for all ages. These events were hosted in conjunction with volunteers from the community garden.

At these free events, we focused on pollinator garden planting, seed sharing and community connections.

  • Planted additional flowers in lasting pollinator-friendly garden, to help bees and other pollinators. This has ongoing environmental improvements and beautification of the park, supported by volunteers.
  • Participants were able to take seeds to grow in their own local yards and balconies, expanding this event’s positive impact throughout the community.
  • We build an ongoing seed swap library with vegetable and flower seeds.
  • Sharing the importance of pollinators and seed diversity.
  • A community member donated 2 very unique PawPaw fruit trees which were planted at the garden. Very few people knew about PawPaw fruit.
  • Participants enjoyed socializing over snacks and drinks

Information about this event was shared through several social media posts to garden, local and NSG Project Leader Connection groups, as well as a few neighbourhood email lists.

Thanks so much to the Neighbourhood Small Grants program for the financial assistance making all of this possible.
