I have planned workshops where people can learn about Japanese culture and experience one of the traditional Japanese craft arts called Mizuhiki.
Mizuhiki is an ornamental, colorful paper string. It has been used to decorate gifts and money envelopes for special occasions and ceremonies.
I prepared authentic Mizuhiki cords imported from Japan. In the workshop, the participants made ornaments using their own personalized Mizuhiki charms, such as hair accessories, key chains, and brooches.
I held three workshops in total, two of which were held during the school summer break so that it would make it easier for parents and children to participate together.
Due to the intricate hand techniques required for Mizuhiki craftwork, each workshop could only accommodate about 10-12 participants. Despite the limited number of participants, a wide range of people, from teenagers to the elderly, took an interest in participating, and some parents and their children joined the workshop as well.
Everyone looked happy to see their own Mizuhiki creations. Mizuhiki is an art form dating back over 1,200 years, and its beauty continues to inspire us even today.
