It’s an amazing feeling to truly belong to a community. Here, in a new home, we all come together as Latinos, embracing our shared heritage while celebrating the unique traditions of our individual countries of origin.
This year, we had the joy of creating a familiar space where children could immerse themselves in language, culture, and traditions through hours of play. Families came together, not just to participate but to connect, share stories, and build lasting relationships. It was heartwarming to see both children and adults exploring their roots while making new memories.
I organized a variety of activities to engage all ages, including an art table, a toddler play area, and traditional guided games. Children explored toys like carreras de caballitos, yo-yos, and trompos, bringing a sense of nostalgia to parents and grandparents alike. There was dancing to traditional songs, a lively piñata, and cuentacuentos.
The impact was incredible! With the help of six amazing volunteers, including myself, we worked together to create and supervise these activity spaces. Friends helped promote the event, and my dear friend Joanna, from New West en Español, kindly invited families through her Instagram channel, ensuring our event reached even more people.
I can’t wait to do it all over again. Bringing our community together through joy and connection is something truly special.
