Mingle And Chat
Last January I organized an event called “Mingle and Chat.” Our goal was to meet new people, share different cultural backgrounds and practice English without hesitations. This was open to all. Thanks to Neighbourhood Small Grants for accepting my application and allowing me to make this wonderful event happen. I was skeptical at first as I am not really good at organizing events and inviting people, so it was a good thing sharing with friends helped to spread the news. Aside from meeting and mingling we talked about a certain topic each meeting.
First meeting, we talked about “Bucket Lists.” Everyone was excited as the New Year had just arrived, each of us participated and were excited for our new goals in 2025. We had participants from Syria and Philippines.
Second meeting was about “Happiness” – what makes you happy? We had participants from Korea, Pakistan, and Philippines, and they all expressed their thoughts. This was a great and meaningful conversation.
Last meeting was about “Cultural Perceptions” – what are the differences of one another? Everyone shared about their cultures, favourite food, and traditions. We had participants from India, Japan, and Philippines who were very engaged. I loved learning of other cultures, it was wonderful knowing Indian and Japanese traditions. We are looking forward for this event in the future.
Our event venue was Black Tiger Coffee. It is a great place for studying, meetings, and hangouts. Cozy and vibrant, with food menus and drinks which are good and delicious. You should try and visit sometime. I love exploring and supporting local and small businesses.
My expectation in numbers wasn’t met because of peoples time and work conflict, however, I still conclude that this event was a success. I am grateful for this opportunity to meet and gain new friends.
Thank you again Neighbourhood Small Grants. Wish you all the best!
