I have created a power point that I have shared with Jennifer; I can’t seem to attach it here; please ask her for it 🙂

This is the sixth summer I have run a drop-in community concert band (think flash mob, but with an hour set of songs).  Anyone who can play a concert band instrument is welcome to attend and the entire neighbourhood is invited to come and watch each Monday evening (weather permitting).  Our only real challenges are the weather and what to do if everyone on a particular instrument is away.

In early June, I sent an email to all the musicians and music teachers I know to spread the word and invite musicians.  At the first ‘concert’ I provide music and at the end I share some treats (cookies, chocolates etc.) with the musicians, and if I have enough, the audience.

We play the same songs each week; some people will go home and practice, others will just show up to play.  The group is so wanted in the community that if I don’t get the group started, people will approach me in the neighbourhood, or even come to my house, to ask when we will resume.

I hope to run this event every summer for many years to come.  Others who are interested are welcome to contact me for details to start their own summer community drop-in band, or to join the one I have running.  bkhoo@shaw.ca
