On September 16th, 2023, we welcomed our neighbours into our amenities room for a Night Club Night! It was our first Night Club Night in years. Many years ago, our community used to hold yearly Night Club Nights, where members purchased tickets which paid for the DJ. Inside the space, members would then purchase snacks and drinks from a bartender.
With the generous support of the NSG grant, we were able to cover the cost of the DJ’s honorarium and lighting rental. Our community’s social fund purchased light snacks and drinks.
Our community has a social committee, so two of our team members went to work to plan, organize and set up our communal amenities room so that we could dance the night away. Because we had decided to rent lighting, it solved the issue of how to make our space appear like a nightclub.
We supported our local community as the DJ was a former graduate of our nearby elementary and secondary schools. He rented the lighting equipment from a local supplier. We purchased the snacks from our nearby grocery store.
Neighbours came together to laugh and dance the night away. While we had fewer neighbours come than we were hoping for, the group of people who did come danced and socialized for the full four hours! This was definitely a night to remember for our community! Our neighbours have already asked if we can make this a yearly event!
