This project began with a simple idea: bringing neighbours together through creativity. I wanted to create an opportunity for people next door to pause, reconnect, and rediscover the joy of making art – something many of us had not done since childhood. With that in mind, I gathered a small group of neighbours and proposed a community painting afternoon. The enthusiasm was immediate, but I knew that turning this idea into a meaningful event would require some planning.

One of the first challenges I faced was the cost of art supplies. Quality paints, canvases, and brushes add up quickly, and I wanted to make sure everyone could participate comfortably without worrying about bringing anything. I am deeply grateful for the Neighbourhood Small Grant, which helped cover a portion of the supplies and also allowed me to provide snacks for attendees. Having support for these essentials made the event accessible and welcoming for everyone.

In organizing this event, I learned how small, intentional gatherings can have a big impact. I also learned the value of planning ahead, especially when juggling supplies, space, and food for a group. Most importantly, I saw how art can bring people together across generations and backgrounds. This project strengthened our sense of community, and many neighbours have already expressed interest in doing it again 🙂
