“Proud to be Canadian” – Truro Drive Block Party

With the goal of helping all the neighbours on Truro Drive get to know each other, we held our annual Block Party on August 31st, 2025, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The sun was shining, and we had over 60 people attend. We celebrated being Canadian as our theme. Red and white balloons and Canadian flags decorated our party!
We set up a canopy with tables, a barbecue for hot dogs, coolers full of drinks, and plenty of snacks for everyone to enjoy. We welcomed back our regulars, as well as some new faces on the street. It was wonderful to reconnect! We all get so busy with our own activities and lives, so it is nice to stop and share our stories with our neighbours.
Everyone enjoyed themselves and caught up with each other about their summer adventures. A neighbour brought out their cornhole game, which turned into some fun competition. Parents with younger kids brought games to share, and it was great seeing all the children playing together. We also had a table covered in paper so anyone could draw to their heart’s content.
We were happy to welcome a new family to the street during this event, as well as some more recent arrivals. A big thank you goes out to the Eades and the Nistors for letting us host the party in front of their homes at the north end of the street. Thanks to Rick, who took on the role of chef — his barbequed hot dogs were a big hit! Ice cream bars also turned out to be a favourite treat. We also had some folks join us from neighbouring streets. Great to expand the list!
As part of the event, we collected donations for the Richmond Food Bank, and the response was fantastic. Not only did we donate all the items people brought, but also anything left over from the party. We also collected $70 in donations. The Food Bank was very appreciative.
Afterwards, I received many kind emails thanking us for organizing this event again. It really helps strengthen the sense of community we enjoy on Truro Drive and helps to keep our street safe!
