This project was a last minute idea that I came up with since our first project got scraped. Many teachers were not allowed to take their classes on field trips to a pumpkin patch, which made many kids sad so I thought why not bring the pumpkin patch to the students and the Community around our school.
Many of the kids that came to the patch were from the school, a preschool near by and a after school program that allows kids from other schools to come to our school at the end of the day.
We also had a band volunteer their time so we would have some entertainment.
One of the best parts was a little girl from the preschool came running up to me and a few others and said “I’ve never been to a pumpkin patch before this is the coolest.”
Many of our grade 6-7 students helped with setting up the patch and learned that it’s not always about taken but giving and sharing.
Our school is an Aboriginal Focus School and one of their teachings, as indigenous people, is about giving so it was a good opportunity to show them the teachings.
