Saturna Island is the most southern Gulf Island, with a community of about 500 full-time residents. The local Knit and Chat group meets monthly to share projects, knowledge, and fellowship. All skill levels and stitchery interests are welcome.
One of our group heard about the Yarn Library that Baaad Anna’s Wool Shop created while listening to CBC, and she circulated the link. Another completed the grant application to see if we could create one for our Island – and we were successful in obtaining an NSG!
A local artist/woodworker was contracted to build our Yarn Barn, now located at the Saturna Library. Our Yarn Barn debut was held on May 9, 2024. We advertised on our local Facebook page and in the local paper; Knit and Chat members, as well as other members of the community, came to the library to knit, chat, and donate yarn to the “Barn”. After our meeting, some of those donations left for new homes.
