The project was an incredible success beyond expectations. There were about 50 guests. Everybody had a great time. It was amazing how many people had connections with other groups. The heritage house was open for viewing and it was a perfect day for a garden party. The farmland setting set the stage. It was a lot of fun.
There were many different groups involved. This included local heritage homeowners, local farmers, municipal political groups, residents of Finn’s Slough, local artists, and the South Slough Dog Park Group.
Dr. Davidson, who did the major restoration of the house in the 1980’s, was a tour guide for those interested in local heritage history. It was a great reunion for locals residing in the neighbourhood at that time.
The organization was relatively easy with the help of many friends. My only regret was not having more time to visit with the guests that I was meeting for the first time!! It was amazing how many people found they had connections with others. One woman was elated to realize Dr. Davidson had delivered her two children decades earlier.
This type of event is an excellent way to promote community awareness. We are very grateful to Neighbourhood Small Grants, the Vancouver Foundation and Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives for the grant that made this possible. It was much appreciated.
