On July 9, over 60 of our Block Watch members attended a summer party in our local neighbourhood. It was a wonderful chance for neighbours to mingle, make new friends, and enjoy each other’s company outdoors. Members of the RCMP Community Engagement team also attended our party and answered numerous questions on community safety.
At first, we were worried that our $500 Small Neighbourhood Grant was not enough money to provide food for everyone who attended the party. However, about 10 neighbours joined a “planning committee” and very generously donated food and supplies. With their enthusiasm and eagerness to make the party a success, our party had more than adequate amounts of food in the end.
We had an icebreaker activity that encouraged everyone to ask five other neighbours some basic conversation questions in an effort to know each better. We also had games and prizes to amuse the participants, especially the children.
