It started out with one of my neighbours saying we should have a block party. I said that would be a good idea and would look into it and started planning it. I mentioned coordinating it with summer solstice weekend and having a fun bocce tournament.. I also mentioned the possibility of getting funding for this function as well from Neighbourhood small grants and went online and applied . I started creating a plan not knowing whether I’d be funded or not. I still went ahead with the plans whether we were approved or not cause it was a great idea. I made up the invitation list. I sent out invitation’s via messenger ,texting and physically going to their door and giving them an invitation. The event was planned for 4 PM on June 20 the day before summer solstice. We had snacks, burgers, Smokies, dessert, and drinks. The tournament incorporated, bocce and cornhole and we all had fun mingling and having great conversation with neighbours and friends. I invited approximately 50 people but unfortunately because of the Father’s Day weekend about 25 attended . I had ages 14 to 83 years old playing in the tournament . It was a successful event and the weather was fantastic .Everyone had a wonderful time mingling with each other and catching up on what’s going on in their lives and in our neighbourhood. Thank you neighbourhood small grants for helping support this gathering of our neighbourhood .🙏🏼🤓 One thing to remember when planning an event like this is someone needs to take pictures. Unfortunately , I didn’t get many photos because I was part of the tournament and too busy playing host .
