I am thrilled to reflect on the success of the two free Photography 101 workshops, generously sponsored by the NSG Grant and held at Steveston Hub in Richmond. These workshops, designed to bring together photography enthusiasts from all walks of life, exceeded our expectations in creating a space for learning, creativity, and community building.
The workshops, which spanned two weekends, offered a transformative 4-hour journey into the heart of photography. Participants learned that true photography goes beyond the technical skills of operating a camera; it is about visualization, composition, and creatively capturing moments that tell a story. With over 10 years of experience shaping this course, it was a joy to share insights on the art and craft of photography with both beginners and those looking to refine their skills.
Key topics such as the history of photography, mastering light and composition, demystifying exposure, and, most importantly, the ancient technique of visualization were all enthusiastically received by the participants. We explored how photography is more than just pressing a button—it’s about seeing the image in your mind’s eye before the shot is even taken.
The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive. Participants shared how the workshop not only deepened their understanding of photography but also fostered new friendships and a sense of togetherness. In a time when community connections are more important than ever, this workshop became a space for people to engage with one another, share stories, and find common ground through a shared passion for photography.
It was heartwarming to see individuals from different backgrounds come together to explore their creativity, build their skills, and celebrate the art of photography. The workshops were advertised on platforms like Eventbrite and Facebook, drawing in a diverse group of participants who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend a photography course. Thanks to the NSG Grant, we were able to offer this workshop free of charge, making it accessible to everyone who wanted to take part.
As we conclude this successful series, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our sponsors for making this possible. Without your support, we would not have been able to reach so many eager learners in the Richmond community. Your commitment to supporting local initiatives has not only helped individuals grow in their creative journeys but has contributed to strengthening the bonds within our community.
We look forward to continuing this journey of education, creativity, and community engagement in the future, and we hope to work with you again to make more impactful programs like this possible.
Thank you once again for your generous support.
