I planted over 100 tomato seeds, not expecting them all to germinate. Most of them did. I got very few big beefsteak types and just a few cherry tomatoes. When I was accepted for the Grant, I went out and bought a few 6-packs of those types. I also bought a flat of marigolds to give away, since they are beneficial companion plants to tomatoes. I wrote a booklet on planting, raising and harvesting tomatoes. I had paper copies and sent many via email. I had chosen one Sunday for the giveaway, and the next weekend was Canada Day, so I brought the remaining plants to the Hall’s parking lot. What is left over is being given to the Community Garden. I also had large plant pots to give to those who wanted patio plants. One mother and son, who were travelling to a Specialist’s appointment in Alberta, did not want tomatoes. I sent them with a marigold. I will put a little $$ aside, and purchase new tomato and companion flower seeds for next year. (and maybe do up a nicer booklet to give away)
