It was our honour to welcome award-winning artist and composer Corey Payette to direct us in singing “Gimikwenden Ina” (“Do You Remember”), from his musical Children of God. We invited choir members and Indigenous staff across campus. The event took place the day before National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, and was very meaningful to all who attended.

About Corey: Corey is an award-winning storyteller, writer, composer, and director. His works include “Children of God,” “Les Filles du Roi,” the upcoming musical “On Native Land,” and, most recently, the film Starwalker, which is currently playing at film festivals across Canada and the US. He is the founder and Artistic Director of Raven Theatre here in Vancouver, and we were so very honoured to have him visit and teach us.

About the Choir: We are UBC staff members from the Faculty of Arts (and beyond), who get together about once a month, during our lunch breaks, to SING. We are led by Jonathan Lee, Academic Advisor and musician extraordinaire. The choir is managed by Jenn Suratos, Administrator and life-long singer. The Choir is barrier-free: no time commitment, no audition, no fees.
