On Labor Day approx. 50 neighbours gathered for the annual block party. This year we had a registration desk where folks made a name tag and received a raffle ticket. They were encouraged to visit the resource table and take whatever info (gov’t of BC provided) and first aid supplies they could use in their emergency grab bag. We raffled off some higher end first aid kits, water straws, etc. The raffle was a big hit as 3-4 numbers were called at a time so there was incentive to get to the table and choose a prize.
The event was a success by many accounts, here are a few highlights.
a small group of neighbours provided a safe environment for someone with dementia
neighbours met and chatted with neighbours
the outdoor Janga game was enjoyed
neighbours shared their emergency prep plans
a women who usually doesn’t attend came, worked the registration table and felt comfortable
folks were genuinely appreciative of the resources
The financial support helped us connect, care and prepare.
