The biggest challenge in this project was getting passed my own fears. I am new to this community (1 year) and met friendly neighbours, however with this project being a huge part of my culture while being a visible minority it left me feeling highly exposed.
It was through the encouragement from those friendly neighbours that made Lucky Lunar happen. I gave real lucky money to all the kids who came – they were very unaccustomed to accepted such a special gift, and, quite a few teenagers actually attended with their family! This is a huge feat in the teenager- family world. Seeing homes displaying their Chinese New Year lucky door signs made my heart warm up everytime I went for a walk.
Public display of the celebration of my culture was the personal goal of my project, and I am happy to say it was a success!
