The Brentwood Town Centre Living / Dying Project has three components. The first, a Death Café, was held on June 24, 2023. The second was Death Over Drafts, a free community event over craft beer to spark conversation and connection around death. Ten participants gathered on September 16 at Steamworks Brewery in Burnaby to discuss grief, loss, mortality, myth and ritual, funerals and burials, dying and death.

Initially, the second component of the proposed project had been the installation of a Grief Telephone in the Brentwood neighbourhood. However, after consultations with the City of Burnaby, it appeared that a suitable location and insurance would be too challenging. So the project pivoted to become a Death Over Drafts event – the first Death Over Drafts ever held in Canada!

The third and final component will be a free guided historical walking tour of the Pacific Heritage Cemetery in Burnaby on October 7, 2023, from 10-11 a.m.
