We hosted the first of the two events on July 25 and it was a success.

We contacted a refugee family from Afghanistan to show us how to cook their traditional dish. Ten guests from diverse ethnic backgrounds were invited to the family’s home for a lunch gathering. There was time for connecting, learning how to cook a traditional dish “Qabli Palou”, food sharing and enjoying lunch together in Afghan style. It is a good cross-culturalal community gathering where we get to know more people in the neighbourhood of diverse backgrounds.

To prepare for the event, I accompanied the family to do grocery shopping, and to purchase culturally appropriate food ingredients. It was a challenge to find the right place with the best price to purchase halal meat that works within our budget. Yet, after all these efforts, we were able to enjoy a feast that bonded our friendship together.

The second cooking event will be held in August.
